“Why Sit We Here Until We Die?”
This is one of my favorite Bible stories from II Kings, Chapter 7. We see the city of Samaria, which had been besieged. Four lepers were “outside the gate.” They were hungry and tired but, “they were lepers.” They had to choose whether to die of starvation or, face the host of the Syrians. One of them said, “Why sit we here until we die? If we go into the city and there is famine, we will die… but if we just sit here and do nothing, we will die also.” Verse 3-4
But, when they rose up and came to the uttermost part of Syria, no one was there! God had just performed a miracle and “made the Syrians think, that they heard the sound of horses and chariots!” They fled, leaving behind all the food, supplies, jewels, horses, silver, and gold!!! The lepers finally decided to leave and tell everyone what had happened. The people came in and took all the food, the spoil, the jewels, the animals… everything!!
Sometimes, we feel we cannot “make a decision.” We think “Oh, I might make the wrong decision, so I can’t make up my mind!” Don’t just sit there. Make your best decision and let the Lord guide you! If not, you “sit there until you die,” spiritually! It takes faith and courage to make a decision. If you trust the Lord, He will always get you back on track! Have a great day and don’t be afraid to make that decision.
