A Haitian Creole Proverb
After living among these wonderful Haitian people, we have come to find out “that even in the worst of times,” Haitians try to laugh.
This morning, when we were having a meeting with our main leaders (as we do each morning at 6:30), we always see that even when things look “very bad” here in Haiti, the workers will manage to laugh at “something!” (Even at some things we would consider “alarming!”)
Little children, who have not eaten a good meal in a long time, will manage a smile or even laugh at something!! They laugh at things we consider “alarming” or even “life-threatening!” If someone falls off his mule and rolls down the mountain, they will be laughing, but they help him back up!! And, they are most often “positive,” than “negative!”
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…” – Prov. 17:22
