Disaster Strikes South Haiti
“Let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord, and let them give it to the workmen who are in the house of the Lord to repair the damages of the house, to the carpenters and the builders and the masons and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the house.” 2 Kings 22: 5-6
In January 2010, an earthquake with a 7.0 magnitude ravaged Haiti, droughts began wilting crops in 2015, and the powerful force of Hurricane Matthew barreled through in 2016. When any disaster hits Haiti, Love A Child is there through the grace of God, distributing food and other emergency relief supplies through our workers — made possible by our partners, Feed My Starving Children, MAP International, and donors like you!
No one could imagine a stronger earthquake would shake Haiti’s foundation than the one from 2010. That was until August 2021, when a deadly disaster ripped through Southern Haiti, with a magnitude of 7.2. At least 137,000 homes were reported damaged or destroyed, more than 12,000 people were injured, and over 2,200 were killed. Love A Child immediately began distributing emergency supplies, many of which were tents that offered temporary shelter for the victims. Bobby felt the Lord telling him to do more by building earthquake-proof Gabion Houses. Supportive partners made this possible by helping us reach our goal to build 100 unfaltering homes.
