Haiti’s children are so vulnerable to malnutrition. They often get marasmus malnutrition “from hardly eating anything at all.” But kwashiorkor malnutrition is more severe. To the mother, the baby looks “fat,” but this is deceiving. The baby is eating but not eating the right kinds of food. Therefore, the baby is just “bones and water.”

These children all came to our Malnutrition Center, where they are examined and sent home with special foods for children with malnutrition. These packets of food above are “very expensive.”  We were so thankful that MAP International donated this to us to get us started. The ones who are “very severe” are in-patient and will be with us for a while until they reach the desired weight but, we have many “outpatients” who will be going home with their mothers with special milk products and food for malnourished children.

They must bring their baby back each week to be checked, weighed, and measured, etc. We now have 33 who are out-patient, and the numbers are growing every day. Everything to run a malnutrition clinic is “very expensive.” God bless all our partners who love the children of Haiti!!
