A Handful of Food…

A Handful of Food…

“A Handful of Food…”

It was just a few years ago that a small boy who had come from a large family was brought to us by some people in the village of Old Letant. There were “many” children, and they had come from different women. Colin’s father was deeply involved in Voodoo.

I believe I was told that Colin’s real mother died, and he was raised by another “woman” of his father. They were preparing to eat; she had cooked a large pot of rice and was dishing out the food to the children. When each one had some, Colin reached his hand into the large metal pot to scrape off some of the dried rice (which the Haitians love). Just as he had a handful, his father grabbed his arm and said, “I’ll teach you how not to be a thief!” And he took Colin to the charcoal fire that had been burning and held his hand down in the hot coals. Of course, his hand was badly burned, and we took him in.

That same week, another child was brought to us, Lionel. His father had gotten angry with him and held his hand in boiling water! We had both children at one time, trying to care for them. Both children ended up at Love A Child. Colin’s hand healed; Lionel’s hand did not. He must go back for more surgery.

Colin is a bright young boy, hard-working, loves school, and loves to play soccer!! We don’t know what his “dream” is, but we feel he will do fine at whatever he sets his mind to.

He loves the Lord!!! And we love him!
