David’s Second Chance

“Learning More than Books Can Teach You…”

We have so many children that sometimes we have two with the same first names. This is David Noel. He is the twin brother of Davidson (Jonathan) Noel. Their mother and father died and their grandma couldn’t take care of these new babies! So she brought them to us on Christmas Eve!

These are two boys who never wanted to get up out of bed, so I used to have to pour “cold ice water” on them to get them up in the morning! When you have 85 plus kids, all of them have to be under the same set of rules, so “when it’s time to get up, it’s time to get up!” Still having problems with the “lazy twins,” I decided to send them to “where they came from,” which was the mountains of Covant, Haiti! (The Haitians say, “If you don’t know where you came from, you won’t know where you’re going!”)

There, he and his brother learned how to carry a bucket of water on their heads from the river, how to sleep on a mat on the ground, and how to get by on “way less food” than they were accustomed to! (They also learned all about bed bugs, gnats, and mosquitoes!) This “education” was better for them than you can imagine! All of our Haitian children must know “how God put them here!” It is the best education that you can imagine!

In Haiti, according to the Department of Social Services, when a child is raised in an orphanage, he goes to school and hopefully high school. But when he or she turns 18… “that’s it!” They want you to open the door and put them out on the street!

But, David has grown into a fine young man. He is tall, nice looking and has a quiet personality. He has changed! Both did well in high school and graduated. So, we let them choose something they wanted to learn and let them go to college. This meant books, uniforms, school tuition, food, and renting an apartment for them and some other children.

His brother Davidson choose Photography, but David choose Civil Engineering! Both love their courses. David is going to the University of Inuka. We are so proud of him! David has come a long way! We believe God has His hand upon both of their lives! And we believe, “everyone deserves a second chance!” We love David and we hope and pray he realizes his dream.
