Education and developing skills are a sure path to a better life in Haiti. Our new class of Sustainable Agriculture in Haiti students are all too happy to get dirty and worn out working to learn new useful skills for successful, sustainable gardening in Haiti. Yesterday and today, the six students have been learning basic soil science and getting hands-on experience making their own soil by blending commonly available ingredients to make an excellent starter soil for new vegetables. Even if an area doesn’t have decent soil available for gardens, as is the case in much of Haiti, these students are learning how to make their own soil using composted leaves, paper scraps, animal waste, and even charcoal, etc. to have a rich, valuable medium for starting tender new vegetable plants. As they progress through this three-week residential course, they will learn new skills both in the classroom and in the field, getting their hands dirty and their backs tired. Each of them understands just how valuable this opportunity is for them and their families. We try to hold these training sessions three to four times a year. The students have to be sponsored by another organization that is committed to relief and development work in Haiti. Sometimes we need scholarship donations in order to allow some of the students to come share in this experience. Please prayerfully consider helping with any size donation toward scholarships for future students. You will be changing lives for generations to come when you support this sustainability program. God bless you. Rad Hazelip – Assistant Executive Director of Love A Child
