We are thankful to God for all his blessings this year. We are thankful to so many of you who have stood by us blessing the poor of Haiti.
George Washington was our first President and was a Christian. On October 3, 1789, the President of the United States, George Washington gave his Thanksgiving Proclamation assigning a day of thanksgiving.
Part of the transcript of his speech:
“Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts.”
A little history: The National Day of Thanksgiving Washington established was not maintained by subsequent presidents until Abraham Lincoln gave his speech using Washington’s great words. Abraham Lincoln was a Christian.
May God bless you this Thanksgiving Day! We are thankful…
