Heartbroken for Our Kids

Haiti is in political turmoil… Businesses cannot operate… Many doctors’ offices, grocery stores, banks, high schools, and universities are closed. There are “some” schools open far up in the mountains where it is safe, but not in the main areas of Haiti. Our children at Love A Child have only been to “one week of school” this year! They are home every day with no education.

Two weeks ago, Dimelia and Roselyne were on their way to register for a university to study medicine, and they were turned back due to riots and roadblocks.

Florence, one of our older girls, applied to a university in Italy that was accepting 50 students from around the world to participate in a free scholarship to study medicine. She sent off her information to Panama for a visa (because there isn’t an Italian Embassy here in Haiti) as she was one of “four Haitians accepted” into the program, but due to the visas not getting out via DHL in time, the college in Italy has already started and she has lost her chance along with the other Haitian students.

It is so disheartening to be here and have our hands tied… To have to be careful about going to the dentist, to buy food, to distribute food, or to do a Mobile Medical Clinic. Every action we take must be carefully weighed, and we must use all of the wisdom we can in doing “food distributions,” which are vital.

“Only God” can fix the problems in Haiti. We are still trusting in the Lord for a victory. Bobby and Sherry
