Here we have little Noah, Joshua, Kenzy, and Ti Samuel. They are trying to “smile” for the camera! Most children here in Haiti don’t know how to smile for a camera… When we say “smile,” they seem to lock their teeth together! They really looked cuter before I asked them to smile.
Since living here in Haiti for about 30 years, I’ve come to find out that one of the hardest things about living in Haiti is “getting Haitians to smile.” Even in weddings, they don’t like to smile. And most little children “don’t know how to smile.” Sometimes, their lips start quivering and then, again, they show teeth! They are so funny…
Noah and Joshua were abandoned and left for dead by our front gate, starving from malnutrition. Kenzy came to us when his mother and father died, and Ti Samuel was abandoned and the Social Services Department asked us to take him in. These four “stick together like glue!”
Oh yes, when we were finished, guess who slipped into the picture? Zoey! Again, we asked her to smile and she pulled out her thumb! Kids! We love ‘em all!!!
