Thank you, partners, for changing another life! You are looking at a young man who has had a “gift for sewing” since he was a little boy…
We were in the village of “Old Letant” with our friends from “Feed My Starving Children.” Mark Crea, who was the CEO, was there and we were busy that day.
I kept watching a little boy who looked to be about five or six, stoking a fire and cooking food for a large family. That little boy did everything from “fetching a bucket of water” from a distance away to “doing the cooking and other things.”
From living in Haiti, I knew he was a “restavek slave child,” and that’s one thing I hate here in Haiti. When the little boy finished, I told his relatives that I was taking him home with me. They never tried to stop me or to say “no!”
I soon found out that the tiny boy was “sewing” things for the older boys… He had his little needle and thread going “a hundred miles a minute,” sewing the boys’ school pants to make them “skinny jeans!” (I did not like the skinny jeans, so I made him stop!)
I soon found out that “he had a passion for sewing!” Some of our partners sent in sewing machines, and Jean Edward began to teach them how to sew! (He would rather be sewing than eating!!)
Special thanks to our friends and partners who have sent in sewing machines!!
