Building and operating a large orphanage in Haiti is challenging but so rewarding. When you bring children in, you never know the whole story of what they have lived through. This is Jean Edwouard. He was a restavek slave child in the village of “Old Letant.” The first time I saw him, he was carrying buckets of water on his head to cook for a large family. He then built the fire and proceeded to cook “what they told him to cook,” he had not been to school. He was such a sad little boy. We brought him to Love A Child, and the Lord changed his life!
He has a job as a “painter,” (which he loves), but his dream is to be a tailor or make any type of clothes. The school he was going to, is closed now because the gangs have taken over the area where the school is…but he is not discouraged. He does alterations for the children and adults and does a great job! He is so sweet and kind and gentle!!! He is “still working hard,” but now, he is getting paid, saving his money, and someday, he will be able to buy a small piece of land, build a little house, and get married!
God surely “…raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes…” I Sam.2:8
All our “Love A Child children” are great examples of how God has the power “to change a life!”
