Jean Edwouard… the Entrepreneur

We first met Jean Edwouard when he was about five or six. He is from the old Village of Letant, not far from us. Jean Edwouard had fallen into a “big hole” in Haiti, that thousands of children here fall into.

He was a restavek slave child. This happens when a child loses both parents and has to go live with relatives. They have then entered into an “invisible prison” that many can never break out of. They will be children, working as adults, but never going to school or enjoying the life of a child.

When we realized that this little boy was hauling water, making a fire, and cooking food for a family, at this young age of six, we decided we could not abandon him!!! That’s the day his life changed when I told him I was taking him home!

Jean Edwouard had never ridden in a machine, so his ride in a big truck with lots of white people must have been scary! He grew and did well in school! We noticed he was sewing things in his spare time. He wanted to be a tailor! He is finishing his school year and has already started a “sewing business.”

We want to thank World Vision for all the pallets of brand new material they donated that we gave to many organizations! And, some went to Jean Edwouard for his “sewing business!” Thank you so much, World Vision!!! We love partnering with you.
