The “Banker,” Jean Gardy, just came in yesterday, from University Unika, in Port-au-Prince. He has been taking courses in accounting and business management. He just passed his first test with flying colors!

Jean Gardy (alias, “the Banker”) is a very unusual young man. Ever since he was a young teenager (very young) he had been handling all the kid’s school money, their transportation money, and food money. He had been picking it up from our accountant, and handling all their money, giving it out as they needed, and keeping their left-over money “for them.” He told them they didn’t need it all… they needed to save some of it! When we found out he had been keeping their money and “giving it to them as needed, we were really upset.” When I tried to go back to the “old system,” all the kids told me they didn’t want to handle their own money… they all trusted Jean Gardy and he had been saving a little of their money back for them! Wow! They were all happy!!!

Jean Gardy is so small for his age, 22. When he was a young teenager, we caught him driving our big flatbed! I yelled out the window, “Jean Gardy, what are you doing driving that flatbed on the property?” He answered so sweetly, “Sorry mom. I’ve had my license for a couple of years now!” ha!

Jean Gardy is a wonderful young man. He was very young when his mother died and his father could not care for him, so his father brought him to us. He has always been “very honest,” and “very good with money!” He and three other siblings here started a small business with cold drinks and handmade “biscuits.” They are doing very well! (Of course, we know who the bookkeeper is!) We are so proud of Jean Gardy and of ALL our Love A Child children and we love them all!
