A grandmother, after losing her daughter, takes on the responsibility of providing for her grandchildren; her young granddaughter is often left responsible to care for her even younger siblings. Another mother works in the field, despite her efforts, she never reaps the fruit of her labors; she must still lay her children to sleep with empty, hurting bellies.
