You may remember Lomene. Her mother died when she was very young, and Lomene’s father took her to live with his other wife who had six children. This woman was very mean. She made Lomene cook, tend to the children, wash clothes and haul water. Lomene was a Restavec (slave child) and did all the chores. She did not go to school, she never played, and she was very sad. When we saw her living conditions and met the “lady” of the house, we knew that Lomene could not stay there any longer. We rescued her and took Lomene home to meet her brothers and sisters.
