Here at Love A Child in Fond Parisien, Haiti, a poor, pregnant mother, Madamn Elismene, age 35, arrived at our Birthing Center. This is a beautiful, calm Birthing Center, with rocking chairs on the front porch and Christian music in the air.
This poor mother had six children and lived in a poor area called “Gaya.” She used to be able to make a small amount of money by selling items, but when she became pregnant, it was much more difficult. She got to the place where “she could not work anymore.”
Her husband is a tailor, but work is extremely rare because no one has money to have clothes made!
When she arrived at our Birthing Center, she had not eaten anything and was very hungry! There was “no food at home.” This was the “first time,” she said, that she felt “safe!” (We have gangs very near to Love A Child, but she felt God’s peace!)
Well, at 3:00 am, little “Nelson Elise” came into the world, weighing 2.8 kg (about 6.2 pounds). (Pregnant Haitian mothers very seldom name their children until they reach home). She was blessed with good food to eat, clothing and diapers, and a “goodie bag” from one of our partners, Robin!
She smiled and said, “I don’t have the right words to say thank you!”
So, to all of you and to our partners who made this possible, “Thank you!”
