The average Haitian meal of rice and beans (if they are fortunate to have any) takes about 2 hours to prepare over the traditional “3 rock stove” (we know it as a primitive campfire.) It also takes 2 hours’ worth of precious fuel. It’s dangerous, hot, and smoky.
At the Agriculture Training Center (ATC) we introduce the students to many “appropriate technologies,” simple devices that instantly make life easier, safer, and healthier. One such item is a “rocket stove.” Yesterday the students learned how to make a “rocket stove.” Now they can cook a meal in 20-30 minutes, and with very little fuel. Think about how that will improve their lives.
Today, the students graduated from their 3-week course. Each of them received their certificate and many gifts to take home to help them with their gardens. They received special garden tools from Z23 Super Hoe, garden seeds from Hope Seeds, and irrigation kits from Chapin Living Waters. They are encouraged now to demonstrate to others what they’ve learned at the ATC Agricultural school over the past three weeks. This is sustainability… helping Haitians learn to help themselves. Food for the future.
Thank you to those donors whose gifts of support allow this to happen. God Bless you.
