This good-looking young man is Dieuferly. He and his brothers are businessmen. They have a restaurant and other projects to make money, and they are good at saving it.
Many years ago, we traveled to a village high in the mountains of Haiti called Covant. Getting there required mules, but we did not have enough for everyone. Some rode donkeys while others walked, and then we switched. It took us nine hours one way. It was the most grueling trip we had ever made.
We met a very poor mother with many children, including two sets of twins. The mother was holding a toddler in her arms. That toddler had clubfeet.
His name was Dieuferly, which means in Creole, “God Made It.” We asked the mother if we could take the toddler back with us and find a doctor to operate on his clubfeet. She agreed.
We made the trip back with one of us carrying Dieuferly on a mule at all times.
Through a series of operations, which took years, he finally received enough surgeries for his feet, some in Haiti and some in the Dominican Republic.
Today, Dieuferly and his Haitian brothers run a restaurant in Haiti, and they have other jobs as well.
Dieuferly has a very tender heart, is kind to the poor, and loves children and Jesus. We are so proud of him.
