Oske Family House Update

Early this morning, our Haitian workers left to travel to Peyi Pouri for a special project, painting the new house, for Mr. Oske and his eight children.

You may remember his story on television. When we had a feeding program in Peyi Pouri, Mr. Oske heard about it. His wife had died, leaving him with eight hungry children to feed. Both parents had to work, gathering sticks for charcoal to make a living. Now that she was dead, he struggled to feed his eight children, so he “gave away four,” as restaveks (domestic slaves).

When he arrived at our feeding program, the “last box” had been given away… he broke down in tears, sobbing. We “borrowed” a box from a Haitian pastor and gave it to him. When we told this story, one of our partners offered to “sponsor a house for him and his eight children.” For months now, the people of Peyi Pouri, under the guidance of Pastor Souffrance, has been building him a house! We sent food to all the workers for months. Another partner offered to sponsor Haitian furniture for the house and someone sponsored the cost of the paint.

All this week, the mountain roads are wet with rain and very dangerous. Our Haitian team usually couldn’t make the trip on the wet roads, however, they took our “troop carrier,” a six-wheel drive, and left early this morning. Another donor sent in household items, plates, cups, etc., for the family! Next Wednesday, we plan to have “Mr. Oske and his children come to Peyi Pouri. He knows “nothing” about this “gift from God!” He will be able to grow a garden on his own land, have a job and get paid each month, attend church at Peyi Pouri, and put his children in our Love A Child School in the fall! That’s the kind of God we serve!

We will bring you “up-to-date,” next week when Mr. Oske and his children move in!
