With a large number of children (85 plus), you must always have projects to keep them busy, boys and girls both. We put the girls on “window patrol,” cleaning all the windows in the Children’s Home! The boys’ “grass patrol.” Sometimes, grass tries to grow between the pavers or any other place. It is hard to keep the grass under control, so the boys help with this! They also pick up any trash that might have been dropped on the property.

We teach them that this project does not belong to “Bobby and Sherry” or to Love A Child. It belongs to God, and we must keep it looking beautiful.

Our kids do a good job, but there’s always room for improvement.

We pray that God uses them all for His Glory.

A “short mother” came to our Birthing Center. Her name is Rosematha Pierre. She is very short. I was told that women in Haiti, shorter than 1.50m, are more likely to have problems due to a small pelvis. This can also make it difficult for the baby to pass through the birth canal during labor. The shoulder of the baby has a possibility of locking at the level of the pubic bone (dystocia). In addition, women of short stature have a risk of premature labor and giving birth to an underweight baby. This was the case of Rosematha Pierre.

This mother is 20 years old and lives in Miracle Village. When she was eight months pregnant, her husband had to leave Haiti in search of a better life for his family. So, Rosematha lives with her mother. She came to “all” her appointments. She took her pregnancy pills and came to our “prenatal training” in our Maternity Clinic for future mothers. Due to her young age and size, she was warned of the probable complications she could face on the day of her delivery.

She came on Saturday, August 20th, at 8:50 p.m., and the delivery was not easy. It took her 20 hours to give birth. During all the time, our midwives stayed right with her. She gave birth the next day at 4:10 p.m. During this long period, our midwives stayed with her and encouraged her. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl! This was certainly a miracle, for her not to have complications. We also had three more births the same day, so everyone was busy! Each mother received some beautiful blankets and gifts and a baby “onesie” that said, “I’m a Blessing” in Creole!

Well, here’s the “rest of the story.” Who does Rosematha look like? That’s right! She is the “little sister” of Lomene, our little cook!! Big things come in small packages!! We are very happy for this young mother and for “Auntie Lomene,” who is in college now.

I’m sure that every one of us has had an experience in taking “our way” or “God’s way.” When Bobby learned to fly many years ago, I was really afraid! After all, I would be flying “with him.” Bobby was taught that “no matter what,” “no matter what your senses told you,” believe the instruments, not your feelings. You may feel that you’re flying high, but your instruments will tell you “pull up, pull up,” you’re gonna crash! There are common people and well known people, movie stars, etc. who would not trust in their instruments while flying. They lost their lives!

No matter what you will be facing today, trust God! Fly blind if you have to, but keep your eyes on the Lord, because “His way is perfect!”

This little sweetie is growing up fast! Ginyia is now 9 years old and going into 4th grade! (I thought she was ten, but the room mother told me she was nine.) Her chores are “babysitting little Zoey and Zachary,” cleaning her room, and anything else the moms ask her to do. Her favorite things to play are “running, jumping rope, and dolls!”

Her real name is “very long” and we think her mother was Dominican. This precious woman died during a C-Section. Her father deserted the baby and left for the Dominican Republic. He never returned for the baby. Her 17-year-old cousin tried to care for her, but could not… so Ginyia was brought here from the Department of Social Services for us to raise. Ginyia is usually “quiet…” unless the boys tease her! Ha! She wants to be a nurse. She loves the Lord and loves to sing! The kids call her “Fonton Boulet,” which means “Big Head!” We all love her.

In this week’s episode, your heart will break as you witness a little girl’s brave demeanor crack at the mere mention of a meal. Parents start working at the break of dawn, with only a small hope that at the end of the day they’ll be able to feed their children. At night they lay down with an empty belly, praying to God for relief. Anything we can do alleviates their suffering; a box of food brings abundant hope to these persevering people.

So many things come up in our lives which try to break our focus from what the Lord has called us to do. Some of these things may be a bad relationship, losing your job, your friends talking about you, a financial setback, or discouragement. Others may be jealous of your ministry, but don’t let your feelings rest on your shoulder. Don’t let anyone or anything derail you; break your focus!

Let’s keep the focus on what the Lord has called us to do! The best is yet to come!

She is 16 now and what a sweet young lady! Ada, nicknamed Jessica, came from Cap-Haïtien along with her siblings – a boy named Raphael and an older sister named Bianca. They were brought here by their aunt, with the story that their parents took a “small Haitian boat” to the US, which capsized and killed everyone. Whether this is true or not, we do not know. All we know is that we “inherited three more children” that day.

Ada “loves” to cook! She, like all the other Haitian girls here, are constantly trying out new recipes! She is very artistic! Her daily jobs are cleaning at the orphanage and anything else she is asked to do. She will be in 10th grade, and she wants to be a doctor! The kids also gave her the nickname “tet bef,” which means “cow head!! She doesn’t mind at all because she helps to give other kids their nicknames!!! Ada is sweet and will go far in her life!
