Word from the Mission Field

“And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he (Elijah) said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee…” 2 Kings 2:9-10

Take time to read 2 Kings 2:1-14 today. If Elisha  had not stayed “focused” on Elijah, he would have never had the “double portion.” We must stay focused on what God calls us to do and keep our eyes “on the prize.” Let nothing take you “off focus!”

“Benediksyon pou Love A Child”

Our heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and several of our pican workers have been teaming up the last few days to move several large shipping containers into one area on the property. Moving about twenty, 40-foot long metal shipping containers is a monumental task. They each weigh several thousand pounds. However, we quickly discovered that underneath several of them, honey bees had made a home. These colonies are huge! I have never seen so many bees in all my life.

We finally got up enough courage to continue the work. As a dark gray cloud of thousands of bees started to swarm, the men began scattering in all directions. As we were running for safety, I heard them laughing and shouting in Creole, “Benediksyon pou Love A Child, Benediksyon pou Love A Child!” In English, it means “Blessings for Love A Child.” When I felt I was a safe distance away, I asked Philemon why all the men were laughing and thanking God for “blessing Love A Child.” Philemon’s joyful response was, “because here in Haiti, bees mean blessings! The more bees, the more that place is blessed. This is a sign that God has blessed Love A Child”. God truly has blessed this place, and Love A Child is blessing thousands of people here!

When the throng of bees settled down a bit, we suited up our head mechanic, Joker, in the lone bee suit we have and went back to work. We uncovered several huge honeycombs covered in bees. With each new discovery, the men ran, laughed, and shouted, “Benediksyon pou Love A Child!” They even had several sweet treats throughout the day as they ate the raw honey.

So remember the next time you see a honey bee or are running from one, be reminded to pray for Love A Child, and know that you are blessed!

Good News From Feed My Starving Children!

Good news!  We just received word from Feed My Starving Children that in August, they will be sending us 11 forty-foot containers of the “Feed My Starving Children” food, and beginning next month through January, ten containers a month! This is an incredible gift for the hungry children of Haiti!

Each container costs us $10,000 to bring the food from FMSC, get it to Miami, put it on the ship, and get it to Haiti. Once it arrives, there are port fees and so many other fees!! Then, that container must pass through “very dangerous areas” to get it to Love A Child, to our “Food Distribution Warehouse.”

Inside each container are 272,000 nourishing meals for hungry children. If ever we need this food, we need it now!!

This food has so many vitamins, and it is specifically designed for children who are malnourished! It actually costs Feed My Starving Children $65,000 for each container of food. So, spending $10,000 to get this food to Haiti is a great blessing!

We feed many villages each month with this food. In addition, all our Love A Child Schools, our Birthing Center, our Malnutrition Center, and over 100 missionary organizations each month, as well as our Love A Child children! So please pray about sponsoring a container of food or give whatever the Lord lays on your heart!

We have “some money” towards these containers, but we do not have the funds for this many. This is really a burden upon our shoulders.  When they offered me, we could not refuse the containers. We MUST do this for the children of Haiti. They are in the greatest danger and the greatest food crisis of their lives.

Word from the Mission Field

“How long will you dwell in Lo-de-bar?”

We have all lived in a “Lo-de-bar” condition sometime or other in our life. “Lo-de-bar” means “without pasture” or a dry desert place. “Lo-de-bar” is only mentioned twice in the Bible. But, the most famous story of this place concerns the grandson of Saul, “Mephibosheth.” When David and Jonathan, the son of Saul, became friends, they made a pact, a covenant together.

Now, in II Samuel 9, we see David thinking about his friend Jonathan, who died in battle, and Saul, his father, who was killed. Now, David wants to keep his “covenant” with his close friend, Jonathan. He asks his servant if there is anyone left of the household of Jonathan that he could show kindness to? Ziba, a servant of Saul’s knew of Jonathan’s son, who was lame in both feet. When David asks where he is, Ziba says that he is in the “house of Machir in ‘Lo-de-bar.’” (Remember, “Lo-de-bar” means desert, without pasture, useless land…) David sends for him and looks up to see his guards dragging poor Mephibosheth, the grandson of King Saul, who was the major enemy of David. The guards drop Mephibosheth before King David, and he drops to the ground like a rag doll. Here is Mephibosheth, whose name is “son of shame,” from “Lo-de-bar,” the desert, without pasture… He is dirty from his trip, dressed in rags, hasn’t had a bath from the long trip, and he’s trembling. The guards are looking on at this “disgusting pile of trash,” the enemy of David. David looks at him and says his name, “Mephibosheth,” and the poor man answers, “Behold thy servant.” But David doesn’t need a servant. He needs to keep his covenant with his best friend who died. And David says, “Fear not!” Then, David goes on to tell Mephibosheth (son of shame) that he will restore all the land of King Saul to him and that Ziba and his household will work the land for Mephibosheth and bring him fruit and bread to eat, etc. “But, for Mephibosheth…” David said, “He shall eat bread at my table, the king’s table, for life!”

Today, you feel as though you are in “Lo-de-bar,” a desert. You may feel that your problem is so big that you cannot handle it. But God can bring you from your “Lo-de-bar” to the place of “blessing” that He has for you!!! Pack your “spiritual bags” and get ready to leave “Lo-de-bar” and go to the house of blessing! Sherry

Okra! Yum!!

Wow! Just look at our ATC workers and this delicious okra!! (Bobby “loves” fried okra!) Haitians eat it differently. They boil it and use it in all kinds of dishes! We are proud of our Agricultural Training Center! It has been a longtime dream of Rad Hazelip, Assistant Executive Director of Love A Child. God really brought Wilnor as the “big papa” and wonderful leader of our ATC. And this project helps provide jobs! When we hire one Haitian, he feeds ten people! Food and jobs!! A great combination!! Thank you, Mr. Rad, and thank you, Boss Wilnor, for a wonderful job!!

Update: “Richard…Keep on Rollin!”

This young man is incredible! He has been crippled in his legs since he was a baby. He came to stay with us right after the earthquake of 2010 when the orphanage where he was living crumpled.

Afterward, people came to pick up the rest of the children, but no one picked up Richard, so we let him stay. Richard developed an incredible talent for playing the keyboard, but he also plays drums and bass. But the keyboard is “his” gift! He connects special sounds via the internet, and it sounds incredible!  Richard plays during the children’s service each night. Our own children take turns leading the singing and singing “specials!” Michael is on the drums, and usually, Raphael is on the bass (and usually, it is way too loud!! Ha!)

He finished school, and now he is in university studying “Administration and Economics.” Richard is easy-going and sweet! He has a special wheelchair donated by one of our friends in the States before he went to be with the Lord. So, Richard can get to church to play via his three-wheeler.

Richard is always – always smiling. He has never felt sorry for himself but considers that he is “blessed indeed!” We love Richard, but “please God, help Raphael to find the “low volume” on the base!”

Peace in a world full of chaos:

“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

In this world full of hate and chaos, with so many fighting each other, COVID-19, some cities falling apart, crime, danger, and uncertainty about the future… We don’t know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future!

In the middle of all of this, God’s people have the peace of Jesus. Let not your heart be troubled today. Jesus can give you peace which passeth all understanding!

Ginyia and Nathalie…

When children grow up in an orphanage or children’s home, they have a lot of “brothers and sisters.” Sometimes, they are even closer to one than their own sibling. But one thing is for sure, they love each other. No matter if one is much younger or older, they all get along.

This little one is Ginyia and her “sister” is Nathalie. Ginyia’s mother died during a C-section, so Ginyia was raised by her older blood-related sister. Her father deserted her and never returned, leaving Ginyia’s older sister to care for her. When the teenager could no longer do so, she took her little sister, Ginyia, to the Department of Social Services. They asked us to take her in, and of course, all the little girls were so excited to get another sister!!

Nathalie was brought to our Malnutrition Center by her father when she was less than a year old. Nathalie’s mother had died, and her father realized she was malnourished and not well… That’s why he brought her to the clinic. She was thin and underweight. When she recovered, we looked everywhere for her father in their remote village, but he was never found. So, we took her in, and we are so glad that “her father never found her.” If he would have loved her, he would never have left this precious gift for us! Ginyia and Nathalie are both doing well in school. Both are in the “Praise Dance Team!”  Both of them love to sing, and they love music!

We will wait and see where God takes these two precious little girls, but for now, they are our “joy!” We love them both!!! Sherry
