“Manna Packs… A Food with Many Names!

Haitians have a name for everything!! They are cute, simple names!! All the Haitians love the “Manna Packs” that Feed My Starving Children send to us, and those only come to us because you, our wonderful partners, pay for these containers to travel far, ocean freight to us in Haiti.

A sweet note came in from our friend, Rene Lako, who has an organization with children, called, Hope Force. You can see the children eating, gaining weight, and looking bright and healthy because of this wonderful food, that Feed My Starving Children call, “Manna Packs.” Hope Force is one of the “100 organizations” that come to get food from us each month, providing the containers have it to Haiti! She and the children she works with are very grateful for the food!!

Most Haitians refer to this as “ti pa nou.” It means, “a little for us!” They love the fact that even if they eat a little, their bellies are full of good food! However, when they get the Manna Packs, they fill their plates because this is the main meal of the day, and for most children, their “only meal.” Some call this food, “Little Jesus!” Many times, our drivers have to “tip gang members” in order for them to let us have our container of Manna Packs to take to Love A Child. Food is like “gold” now, in the country of Haiti.

Last month, we had to cross the border the of Dominican Republic to take Dieuferly, one of our older LAC kids, to surgery for his club feet. As we crossed the border, we heard some of the border guards say, “Hey Blan! (That means; ‘hey, foreigner!’) “Where’s my ti pa nou?” Ha! We didn’t have any!!! But, we realized that we might have to take a box with us next time, if we want to make it across the border!! We believe this food is blessed by God!! Thank you and God bless you, Bobby and Sherry

“And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he (Elijah) said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee…” 2 Kings 2:9-10

Take time to read 2 Kings 2:1-14 today. If Elisha  had not stayed “focused” on Elijah, he would have never had the “double portion.” We must stay focused on what God calls us to do and keep our eyes “on the prize.” Let nothing take you “off focus!”

“How long will you dwell in Lo-de-bar?”

We have all lived in a “Lo-de-bar” condition sometime or other in our life. “Lo-de-bar” means “without pasture” or a dry desert place. “Lo-de-bar” is only mentioned twice in the Bible. But, the most famous story of this place concerns the grandson of Saul, “Mephibosheth.” When David and Jonathan, the son of Saul, became friends, they made a pact, a covenant together.

Now, in II Samuel 9, we see David thinking about his friend Jonathan, who died in battle, and Saul, his father, who was killed. Now, David wants to keep his “covenant” with his close friend, Jonathan. He asks his servant if there is anyone left of the household of Jonathan that he could show kindness to? Ziba, a servant of Saul’s knew of Jonathan’s son, who was lame in both feet. When David asks where he is, Ziba says that he is in the “house of Machir in ‘Lo-de-bar.’” (Remember, “Lo-de-bar” means desert, without pasture, useless land…) David sends for him and looks up to see his guards dragging poor Mephibosheth, the grandson of King Saul, who was the major enemy of David. The guards drop Mephibosheth before King David, and he drops to the ground like a rag doll. Here is Mephibosheth, whose name is “son of shame,” from “Lo-de-bar,” the desert, without pasture… He is dirty from his trip, dressed in rags, hasn’t had a bath from the long trip, and he’s trembling. The guards are looking on at this “disgusting pile of trash,” the enemy of David. David looks at him and says his name, “Mephibosheth,” and the poor man answers, “Behold thy servant.” But David doesn’t need a servant. He needs to keep his covenant with his best friend who died. And David says, “Fear not!” Then, David goes on to tell Mephibosheth (son of shame) that he will restore all the land of King Saul to him and that Ziba and his household will work the land for Mephibosheth and bring him fruit and bread to eat, etc. “But, for Mephibosheth…” David said, “He shall eat bread at my table, the king’s table, for life!”

Today, you feel as though you are in “Lo-de-bar,” a desert. You may feel that your problem is so big that you cannot handle it. But God can bring you from your “Lo-de-bar” to the place of “blessing” that He has for you!!! Pack your “spiritual bags” and get ready to leave “Lo-de-bar” and go to the house of blessing! Sherry

Wow! Just look at our ATC workers and this delicious okra!! (Bobby “loves” fried okra!) Haitians eat it differently. They boil it and use it in all kinds of dishes! We are proud of our Agricultural Training Center! It has been a longtime dream of Rad Hazelip, Assistant Executive Director of Love A Child. God really brought Wilnor as the “big papa” and wonderful leader of our ATC. And this project helps provide jobs! When we hire one Haitian, he feeds ten people! Food and jobs!! A great combination!! Thank you, Mr. Rad, and thank you, Boss Wilnor, for a wonderful job!!

This week, Love A Child brings food into an extremely dangerous and violent area in the garbage dump village of Truttier, Haiti. Watch as Bobby and Sherry and their team put on the armor of God, go against the advice of local authorities, and risk their own lives to feed these poor families who sometimes do not eat for days. Witness mothers and grandmothers crying tears of joy as their children finally have something to fill their bellies.

Peace in a world full of chaos:

In this world full of hate and chaos, with so many fighting each other, COVID-19, some cities falling apart, crime, danger, and uncertainty about the future… We don’t know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future!

In the middle of all of this, God’s people have the peace of Jesus. Let not your heart be troubled today. Jesus can give you peace which passeth all understanding!
