Future Construction Team

All of our Haitian children are learning “something!” We have future doctors, nurses, dentists, tailors, school teachers, and construction workers! These little boys are Lucson, Nelson, and Wilguens in this picture. They are mixing cement and carrying off buckets of pieces of cement!

They love “working with the big guys!!” They can stay there and work until they get into trouble! Ha! With 85 kids out of school, you can imagine how hard it is to keep track of them! But they always come back when “they smell food cooking!”

We love all our children; we love “watching them work!”

Raising Thoroughbreds

We are so proud of our Love A Child children! They all have “big dreams,” and you, our friends, and partners are the ones we have to thank! They all love the Lord, but we have taught them that they must “reach for the stars.” They are the future of Haiti. Roselyne is in her first year of Medical College here in Haiti. She always volunteers when she comes home for a visit.

Lovely also volunteers in our clinic. (She thinks she wants to be an attorney, but she always volunteers in the Jesus Healing Center or Birthing Center.)

Dumolia is waiting on her visa to go to Italy to an English-speaking college (she went to school in the States due to all the skin grafts she received. She suffered from severe burns as a child. Due to this, she graduated from an English-speaking school and she speaks little French.)

Jovanie will graduate from college as a midwife, but she already has her RN degree. She’s a “tough cookie!” Fabienne is in her third year of Dental College as a Dental Hygienist, and Sarah is also. Sarah is in her first year. When we first built our beautiful orphanage, people told us, “it would be too beautiful for an orphanage,” and people would not support it. But God told Bobby, “Build it! You will be raising thoroughbreds!” The Lord is always right!

Thank you, partners!

LET JESUS’ LIGHT SHINE!

“Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

If you set a city on a hill, all will see the city when the lights are on. If we light a candle, we don’t put it under a box but on a candlestick. This way all in the house will have light. When we do good works, all will see the light of Christ. Here in Haiti, when we feed the poor, clothe the naked, and help those who are sick, people see what the Lord is doing. Glorify the Lord! Let your light shine before men, that they may see Jesus!

Berry is a Tough Young Man!

This is Berry Limose. He and his three sisters, Julianne, Sheline, and Jonise, were the “first four children” we took in to start our orphanage. They were all born in a poor village in L’Estere, Haiti, in a mud hut.

Their father died, and soon after, their mother was on her death bed. She called me and made me promise that “if she died,” we would take care of her four children. We never intended to start an orphanage; it just happened.

When their elderly grandma handed over the four small children, she said, “I’ll give you three good ones and one bad one…you’ll have to beat Berry every day!” Ha.

Well, we had our “ups and downs” with Berry. He got into trouble when he was a teen, but we believe in a “second chance.” Berry has now been working for Love A Child for many years and doing a great job! His job is handling all the food distributions, some of which are in dangerous areas.

Yesterday, after doing a food distribution, he was driving our big food truck back, and just before he got to our gate, a guy on a motorcycle yelled, “You better give me some food, or I’ll shoot you!” Berry yelled back, “I don’t’ have any food to give you,” and Berry kept on driving. Right before he got to our gate, the man on the motorbike shot twice at him! Berry just made it inside our gate! We were all so thankful for his life!

Later that night, Berry was running around here inside Love A Child, in the dark, and fell and broke his toe! (You can see Dr. Barthelemy in the ER with Berry.) He was thankful for the great care our clinic gave him.

There is a Creole Proverb that says, “When you pass through sickness, you will know the medicine.” Berry, you’re a tough young man!

We all love Berry!!!

GWO MACHÉ MIRAK Food Distribution

Yesterday we gave out meals to all of the Gwo Maché Mirak (Miracle Market/GMM) vendors. We did this because they work so hard trying to sell their little items, but due to the economy and the ongoing crisis here, they make very little money. Some days no money at all.

They are such sweet people and have been so faithful. Yesterday was a happy day for them! Mr. Bellevue and his staff do a great job running the market. The GMM market is for the community, a sustainability project. Haitians helping themselves. Farmer John’s Butcher shop has the most successful and best meat in all of Haiti and is located in the market. Now, we have a big gas station, a bank, a phone company, plus all the vendors selling everything you can think of. Our girls go there every Saturday with Sherry shopping for spices and food items.

Thank you, Jentezen Franklin (Kingdom Connection), for the first $1,000,000 donation to build the market and all the others who made the market what it is today. God bless all the workers and employees who work so hard each day.

Love is something you do.

Love A Child accepts no money from the market. Instead, we put money into the market each month because it is a sustainability project.

BREAKING NEWS: We had a magnitude 3.9 earthquake at 5:01 am this morning.

“You can recover all…”

We go through so many trials in our life. Sometimes, it feels as though Satan does nothing but steal, kill, and destroy any small thing that he can. Bobby and I have been through so many things when starting out in the ministry. It seemed sometimes that just when we were blessed, Satan stole it!

David, in the Bible, went through many things like this also. In 1st Samuel 30, there is a story about David and his loss. While David and his men were in battle, the Amalakites had come to his hometown, Ziklag, and burned it to the ground. Even worse, they took all of David’s wives and children, and all the wives and children of his small army. It was such a trial that his army “lifted up their voices and wept, loud!” Then, all of the people of the city spake of stoning David, for they blamed him. I can see David with his face on the ground, asking the Lord, “Shall I go into battle after them?” The Lord answered David, “Thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail, recover all.” David and his men went into battle, and the Bible says, “David recovered all.”

You may be experiencing the loss of something… a home, a job, whatever. Our son and his wife just lost their house to a fire. A loss is devastating. But it doesn’t have to end there… God will restore what the devil has taken, and “you can recover all!” You can and you will get through this! God is on your side!!! Have a great day and keep looking “up!” God has never failed you, and He never will!

Yonel… Mercy Picked Him Up!

We first saw Yonel during a Mobile Medical Clinic in the mountains. His grandma had brought him and his young sister to us. They both were dying, but we thought we might be able to save Yonel. He had severe malnutrition. That day we left the mountains, he ate “eight mangos,” like he was starving to death because he was! God brought him back to life.

Yonel was one of our “prodigal” children.  After he graduated, he had turned from God. I almost felt like “giving up” on him, but “we left the gate open,” and he came back to the Lord and us! He got a job here at Love A Child as a painter, came back to God, joined a church, and got married!! He is such a sweet young man. I’m so glad we “leaned on the side of mercy.”

We all love Yonel!

Latest Update

Good news! The doctor/hospital rescheduled Dieuferly’s operation on his clubfeet for this coming Tuesday morning. Thank you, RL, for all your help in the Dominican Republic working with the doctor. We will be leaving Haiti on Sunday for Santo Domingo. Dieuferly’s surgery prep will be on Monday. Thank you for your prayers.

Breaking News:

Barry and the Haitian staff were coming back down the road from giving out Feed My Starving Children meals. A man rode up on a motorcycle by our box truck and shot twice, demanding he stopped. Barry hit the gas and made it to our Love A Child gate. I found out this man has threatened Barry before, saying if he didn’t give him a lot of food, he would kill him. We have received threats from bad thugs and gang people all the time; if we don’t give them food, they will kill us, including Sherry and me. These people just want to rob us and sell the food.

His angels protect us, and we pray for all of them who wish to do any of us harm. Things are still looking good for Haiti. I’m very optimistic.

We claim Haiti for Christ.

Haiti Update

PTL! The border opened this morning for travel to the Dominican Republic. RL, our contact in the DR, is working with the doctor and hospital today to reschedule Dieuferly’s clubfeet operation. I believe the surgery should be next week. Sherry and I will travel with Dieuferly there. The doctor will operate on both feet at one time. He said the first four to five days, Dieuferly will be in pain. Please be in prayer.

All is calm here in Haiti. We are so thankful. I have to say, for the first time in months, I’m now optimistic for Haiti. I can see some things happening; Haiti could have a bright future. I pray that all the evildoers involved in the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse will face justice and let us have a new Haiti not consumed with greed, power, and corruption.

Haiti will again be the “Pearl of the Caribbean.”

We are claiming Haiti for Christ.
