We teach the children here at Love A Child that “God’s divine favor” is worth more than gold! Divine favor can bring you out of a mess! Divine favor can “lift you up above your circumstances” when you need it the most.
The Bible tells us the story of Daniel and the three Hebrew children who were held in captivity by King Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon. He was an evil, hateful ruler who didn’t think twice about killing someone. The King had set a eunuch over these young Hebrew men to “fatten them up” for three years. At this time, they would have had to learn the language and customs of this country, but the King gave a commandment of what foods to serve them. These foods were against their Hebrew teachings.
“Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.” (Daniel 1:9) This means that “Daniel had found favor in his eyes…” The story goes on to say that Daniel asked the eunuch to let the Hebrew children only eat what they were allowed to eat and drink according to the Word of their God. And the eunuch did… he actually disobeyed the King in order to do this. You can read the story of the great miracles that God worked for Daniel and the three Hebrew children… all because of “divine favor.”
You may be in need of something that you have been praying for… a better job, a better house, education for your children, or whatever it may be. This could seem impossible, but with God and His divine favor, “all things are possible!” Someone once said, “An ounce of favor is worth a lifetime of labor.” Pray and ask the Lord for “divine favor” in your life! She wasn’t always this happy. Many years ago, we were in a remote village. I happened to be watching a very poor little girl, washing dishes (outside), and cooking for two families. I saw a huge pile of dirty clothes she was about to wash after she finished cooking for the two families!
I knew by watching her that she was a “restavek” slave child. (In Haiti, when a child loses both parents, they have to go and stay with relatives. The term restavek means “to rest with or stay with.”)
She was sent to relatives to “work.” Children in this situation do not get to go to school. We brought her to our orphanage.
But Lomene not only went to school, she went to college. She will graduate as a professional cook!
We love Lomene, “Laurie.” She knows how to cook!
After all, they say, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!” We know the Lord will send her the right husband when it’s time!
”Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things…” Matthew 25:23
“Bruno” has been working at our Love A Child Maternity Clinic for quite a while. He works at the “patient desk” and keeps track of the mothers and their records.
He had been concerned about the people in the “mud hut” village of Old Letant since Pastor Sorel had died. No one had taken his place. Bruno began going there faithfully and winning people to Jesus! He would gather the young boys and talk to them about Jesus and their future and education.
When someone becomes a Christian, he and our head Pastor, Pastor Luders, baptize them here at Love A Child (in our fish tanks!)
More people bound by Voodoo began to accept Jesus! The church at Old Letant began to grow. This church, in the middle of mud huts, which had been sponsored by our good friend David George, began to grow!
Pastor Luders and other Haitian Pastors felt that it was time to “pray over Bruno” and anoint him as “Pastor Bruno” officially.
The Church in the mud hut village was packed out!
We are so proud of Pastor Bruno! He is not only a great Pastor, but he is a “great soul winner!”
We love Pastor Bruno,
Bobby and Sherry
Special thanks to our friends, Debbie and Donnie, who helped sponsor many needs for this church!
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9
Have you ever felt like giving up? Have you ever said, “I’m discouraged and I don’t see how I can keep going.” Don’t give up! “If God be for us, who can be against us!” Romans 8:31
The best is yet to come!! Tell the devil where he can go!!
We are home safe here in Haiti!!! Thank you for your prayers. Some of the children who heard us drive up, came rushing out to greet us. Oh, so good to see the children! Love is something you do!
I thought I knew what “real worship,” was… You are sitting in church, and you feel the presence of the Lord, and it feels like “warm oil” has been poured on your head. But, I was reading the Book of Job, again… after the devil put Job to the “test,” losing all his substance, his “7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 she asses… a great household,” after losing this, his servants came to tell him that the house fell and collapsed on his seven sons and three daughters. The agony of losing everything God had blessed him with was taken away in one day. And then, I read the scripture that said, “Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell on the ground, and worshiped.” Real worship is not when you have been blessed, real worship is when you have had everything ripped away from you and you can still “lay before the Lord,” and worship. That’s “real worship.”
Our precious Dimelia (Dumolia) is in college in Jamaica. She could not go to college in Haiti because she could not speak French well enough. Dumolia was brought to us by her poor father who lived in the mountains. When Dumolia was small, she accidentally pulled over a huge pot of boiling water. It scalded her from her neck, down to her waist. She had been taken to the “poor people’s hospital” in Haiti. They did not do skin grafts. When she was brought to us, she could not turn her head nor raise her arms. We sent her back and forth to the Shriners Hospital in Boston. She learned English quite well. So, when it came time for college, we had to send her to Jamaica to an “English speaking college.” She is happy with college and her church, that she really loves! We pray that we can find a good plastic surgeon in the Dominican Republic to hopefully help with her surgery. Dumolia is sweet, caring, and compassionate. We love her so much.
We are traveling! The next stop is Santo Domingo, then Haiti. I know many people are wondering “Why are you going back to Haiti with all the dangers and turmoil?” The orphan children, staff all the 498 employees… we miss them. We have a love for each other which is hard to understand. The calling of God, love is something you do. Please pray for safe travels and safety in Haiti. We will explain more later this week. We love you.
Only what we do for the Kingdom will last. Caring for the “least of these” is a way to show true God-like love. When you feed the hungry, minister to the lost, and help heal the sick, you are doing those things for God Himself…
Matthew 25:40: “… Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for Me.”
Remember, “Love is something you do.” Do not delay to find ways to “Do Love.”
Joshua was abandoned at our front gate as an 11-month-old infant. He was malnourished and in terrible shape. After being evaluated at our clinic, he was sent to a local hospital for over a month to try to save his life. The doctor thought if he lived, he would have mental impairment due to the severity of his malnutrition. It took him a long time to crawl or walk, but wow, if you could see him now! He is our small but fearless adventurer, and he is so smart! If you’re having trouble finding him, you’d better go see if he is trying to ride one of the donkeys or chasing one of the older kids! And wow, can he talk. He will chat off the ear of anyone willing to listen. The good thing is, with so many brothers and sisters, there is usually someone who is all ears! He is in the 3rd grade, and his favorite food (as of today) is popcorn. His favorite thing to do is play on the playground. When he gets older, he says he wants to work “for money” (good plan Josh), and the kids say he never says no to candy. The little malnourished baby abandoned as an infant is thriving and strong! Our Love A Child Children’s Home definitely wouldn’t be the same without him!
