I will never forget the day we first saw Lomene. We went to visit a family in Fond Parisien, where we had built a house. Right near the house we built, we noticed a small, tiny, little girl, sweeping, cooking, scrubbing, and washing dishes. I knew she must be a restavek slave. In Haiti, when a child loses its mother and father, or even just their mother, many times there is no choice but to go to live with a relative and become a slave. That child will never go to school or have any future.
At this time, she was working for several families, who had the same father but different mothers. She also took care of small children. I asked the “women” in charge if I could take her to my orphanage, and she gave her consent.
Lomene is in High School. She is very quiet, loves the Lord and tells me “she wants to run a kitchen someday!” She loves to cook!! I’m sure we can find a great job for her in the future!!! Sherry
