The Story of Mdm Gerilus Dieulène

If it had not been for the Lord and our wonderful Love A Child midwives, we would have lost a baby and a mother…

Today, there were fewer pregnant women at the Birthing Center due to the assassination of President Moïse. The streets had an “eerie calm,” and almost everyone worried about going out onto the streets. Only those who really needed medical help and the mothers who were near delivery made it out. Such was  the case of Mdm Gerilus Dieulène.

It was dark, and the sun had not yet risen. Mdm Dieulene made her way in great pain to our maternity clinic along with 26 other women, braving the streets. This mother is 34 years old and has four children. She comes from an area called “Bouley” and has a small business selling items. It is “barely enough” to feed her family. When she arrived, our midwives checked her and saw that she had high blood pressure, her feet were swollen, and she could not walk at all. She told the mid-wives that her “bones even hurt,” which was due to the high blood pressure. (Many Haitian women have high blood pressure, and they cannot afford the medicines for this, but our Birthing Center covers all medications). She was on the verge of “pre-eclampsia,” which is life-threatening. They gave her medicine to prevent a seizure. At 1:10 am, she gave birth to a healthy little girl, 3.3 kilos. Had she not been here, she and her baby would have both died.

Now, She has a beautiful bundle in her arms and nice baby clothes and items from one of our partners. Now, she is ready to go home with the blessings of God upon her life!

We thank God for our wonderful staff and the sweetest partners God could ever give us!!!

Thank you, and God bless you,

Sherry
