Dumolia (Dimelia) is still here at our Love A Child Children’s Home waiting on her Visa to go to a college in Italy. She applied nearly 11 months ago, but due to coronavirus, Visas were held up. She is still waiting. It would be easy to understand if she just wanted to quit and “give up,” because it has been so discouraging, trying to stay in contact with the college, get all her paperwork, just “waiting for her Visa.” But, she has a good outlook on life and when many young ladies would have given up, Dumolia doesn’t. She keeps a smile on her face and volunteers here at Love A Child, every day. Most of the time, she is doing “sonograms” at our Birthing Center, because she is so qualified and does a great job. She loves the ladies who come to the Birthing Center and is always so cheerful and sweet to them. Dr. Nadia really depends on Dumolia.
Dumolia should have been one of those children in Haiti, who would have spent their life in the mountains, scarred from her burns, with no education, and no way to keep her head up. But, God had plans for her life.
She was brought to us when she was about three. She lived in the mountains of Haiti with her parents, who were very poor. She had fallen into a pot of boiling water. Apparently, her mother had started a fire and put the large pot on and left, but Dumolia somehow stumbled and fell directly into it. Her neck, shoulders, and chest area were melted. Burns from boiling water are worse than burns from a fire. She could not turn her neck nor raise her arms above her head when we got her. So, we sent her to the Shriners in Boston, MA. We found a host mother and she was there on and off, for years, coming back and forth to return to Haiti. But due to some problems with her host mother “keeping her passport,” her Visa to return to Haiti was a little late.
She graduated from an English-speaking high school in Haiti, but she cannot speak or write French well, so she needs to go to a college where they require English. She is still waiting on her Visa to Italy. We pray that this will happen soon. Dumolia is intelligent, hard-working, and has great faith in God! She has “come a long way” with a determined spirit! We love her so, so much!!
