Jasson (Jackson) is such a sweet young guy, but he has serious medical problems caused by his severe “Kwashiorkor Malnutrition.” When we found him in the mountains of Savaan Pit, Haiti, his stomach was so swollen and so full of water, that if you tried to pick him up, he felt like a ton of cement blocks! We brought him back to our orphanage and he was under doctor’s care for a long time.
Due to his Kwashiorkor, he had developed severe kidney problems. The doctors in this area wanted to start him on kidney dialysis. The machine they had was only for adults, but we felt that we were missing something in his diagnosis. We took him to the Dominican Republic and to another specialist. The doctor told us that due to his height and weight, he needed to be treated as a child and not an adult. They began to put him on a special diet to try to post pone the dialysis as long as possible. They told us we needed to buy a “pediatric dialysis machine” and have several workers trained on it, so that this could be done at our Love A Child Children’s Home. This would mean that Jasson would be on the machine at night and not at daytime. He is still under a doctor’s care in the Dominican Republic. He will be traveling there with our driver, Philemond, who will also be taking Dieuferly, who had major club-feet surgery a few months ago. Both children will have a check-up.
We have many children here who are under special medical care. Raising a large number of children in Haiti, and many with a disability or health condition, is very, very hard and very stressful. Not only does this mean taking the time for all the appointments, but many of the doctors, hospitals, or clinics are in “very dangerous places” and hard to reach. We trust the Lord with every child and every trip to the doctor. We love all the children. “They” are the future of Haiti. We could not do this without the help of our wonderful sponsors! God bless you and thank you so, so much.
