Kenzy is still in the hospital. This poor little 8-year-old was brought to us by his frail, sickly mother when he was a baby. (His parents died.) Over the years, he was diagnosed with sickle cell. The Haitians call it “Anemie Falciforme.” This type of sickle cell has pain in the bones. Kenzy always has stomach problems, a hard time with his bowels, his eyes turn yellow, and he is weak. Kenzy is in serious condition.
He will need more blood tomorrow. Haiti does not have a “blood bank” that operates like the U.S. If you need blood, a relative must quickly “round up donors” (family members) to give blood. In many cases, when there is an accident, this takes time, and in the meantime, a patient could die.
Kenzy really needs your prayers. We are glad that we have older kids in college who will donate more blood tomorrow. Prayer is the answer. Remember Kenzy in your prayers. God bless you. Sherry
