Update on Mackenson

Mackenson is one of our young teenaged boys here at Love A Child. Mackenson came from our LAC School in Bel Fontaine, high in the mountains of Haiti. We were conducting a Mobile Medical Clinic and a poor father arrived with a baby in his arms. I could tell the baby had malnutrition because his skin was “falling off.” But I was amazed when I found out how old he was… Seven years old! I thought, “That’s impossible!” But, it was true! Mackenson had Kwashiorkor Malnutrition! He was dying. We brought him back to our orphanage and had to put him in the hospital for a while. After a long time, he began to gain weight by eating good food.

About four years ago, he had a “stroke” while in school. For a long time, he could not use his hand. He is much better now, but still walks with a limp.

Mackenson is 15 years old and in the 9th grade. He wants to be a professor of geography. His chores include cleaning his room, mopping, and doing anything he is asked. He is good at dominoes! We are so proud of Mackenson!
