As you may know, Bobby and I left yesterday by car to drive to the Dominican Republic, where we are now, at our mission house. (An eight-hour drive!!!!) We had Philemond, Joker, and Dieuferly with us. Philemond is the best driver in Haiti! We brought Dieuferly for a doctor’s appointment or possibly two appointments concerning his club-feet, which are very painful. We have our first appointment tomorrow.

Dieuferly is also our photographer. He went to Oriani, Sunday to photograph Pastor Claude’s church in Oriani, which we helped build for him. It is a four-hour drive from us to Oriani!!!! It is in the “middle of no-where,” but can you imagine a wedding here in the mountains?! We don’t know how the Haitians do it but look at this beautiful bride and all of the decorations! Weddings are a very big celebration in Haiti, and it is the only thing they get to look forward to.

Pastor Claude explained to us that there is not a water source in Oriani. The poor mountain people take a mule down the mountain to Fond Parisien, carrying four “empty gallons” on their mule or donkey. They fill their empty gallon jugs and start up the long trip to Oriani. But, the trip is so long and difficult that they end up drinking and sharing water with their mules or donkey. So, they use two of the gallons of water to get back home!! We felt so bad, and we were so sad to hear about this water problem. We don’t even know if “well drilling equipment” could even get up there!!!

This is why “the people take advantage” of any happy occasion in the mountains of Haiti. For the poor, it is a rare thing.
