Update on Poul Mirak: 11-17-17 5:00 PM

This is an update on one of our Sustainability Outreach Programs from Rad Hazelip, Assistant Executive Director, Love A Child:

One of our most successful sustainability outreaches is the Poul Mirak chicken co-op. This program helps Haitians help themselves. It has now been operating for more than three years. Poul Mirak continues to meet all of its objectives of providing enterprise and employment in Fond Parisien and providing local, healthy meat protein to the community and soon we anticipate extending these benefits to other areas of Haiti by starting our “chicken school.”

Thanks to the vision and the big hearts of Mike Welch, Larry Guest, and the World Poultry Foundation, this model program is demonstrating the value of using business as missions.

The four co-op members first learned how to raise meat chickens in Haiti, even under tough conditions there. They are now better than the averages for Haiti at raising their flocks. During the past year, they have been developing into good businessmen, learning to plan ahead, adjust to market conditions and market their chickens to get higher prices.

Without the vision, commitment and support of Mike Welch and his associates, this opportunity would not have been available for these men to contribute to their community. We thank all the donors whose sacrifices make these programs available.
