Yesterday, we sent some of our workers into a very dangerous area of Haiti to “spy out the land.” This one area is probably the saddest area we have ever seen, and it is almost impossible to go there and not cry. The children, men and women, and even some of the “street guys” were all begging for food. One little girl started crying, telling our worker how she dreamed of “leaving Haiti, getting a job, and feeding her mother, father, and family!” Another elderly woman began to cry as she told us how hard it was to find food each day for herself, for her children and grandchildren. The stories were so horrific that the Haitian man we sent there couldn’t bear to hear another story!
The problem is that “getting to this place” is extremely dangerous…extremely dangerous. We have been warned by our Haitian director, twice, “not to go!” The gangs have the BIG guns, and the local police (whom we usually pay to protect us) told us that they would not be coming to protect us because they don’t have the guns the “gangs” have!
Have you ever struggled in your heart about a decision that you know is the right thing to do, but in the natural, it is not a good idea? That is how we feel right now. Do we bring food and hope and let the poor know that “God has not forgotten them,” or do we think about ourselves and “not go?”
If ever we needed your strong prayers, prayers of “protection,” we need it now. We will be leaving here tomorrow morning at about 5:15 am. We are getting white Mega rice, tipanou (the Feed My Starving Children rice), and 1,000 big fresh tilapia fish ready!
We ask your prayers that the people will see “the love of God in us,” and that the Lord will bring us back to our Children’s Home, safely!
