“God’s Mighty Men…”
David in the Bible was a great warrior, and fearless. At the age of about 17, he killed the giant, Goliath, with a sling and a single stone, aiming it right into the middle of Goliath’s forehead. Soon after that, King Saul offered his daughter to David, if he could kill 100 Philistines and bring back their foreskins. David killed 200 and brought King Saul the “present.” Later, when David became King, he won many battles, but he also had a band of mighty men, who were extremely valiant. “Ja-shob-e-am” killed 300 of the enemy at one time with his spear! Three hundred… Imagine that! “Ab-i-shai” also killed 300 at one time, with his spear. “Be-nai-ah” killed “two lion-like men of Moab.” He also went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion! And there are more stories of “David’s mighty men!” They were fearless! Three of them broke in behind the line of the Philistines and brought David water from the well of Bethlehem, which David poured out before the Lord. Today, we are not fighting “giants,” nor does anyone expect any one of us, single-handedly to fight off 300 men with a spear, let alone, jump into a snowy pit and kill a lion. Today, God’s people fight “spiritual battles.” “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds…” 2 Corinthians 10:4 – We pray, we intercede, we give, we go, we care, and we bind the enemy with our prayers. We are “God’s mighty men and women!” And we are always “on the winning side!” Sherry
