Are We Really “Debt Free?”

“For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” Luke 12:48 — Do you ever think about what we owe the Lord? He is not in debt to us, but we are forever indebted to Him, especially to those who have much… More is required of them. Living in Haiti has been an “eye opener” to the rich and the poor. When we travel up through certain areas such as Kenscoff, located in the foothills of the Chaîne de la Selle mountain range, we see the most magnificent homes. There is another section in Haiti where the “richest of the rich” live. Yet, when they leave their gate, the poor are there, but they do not see them! One time, an “acquaintance” of Bobby’s called us here in Haiti. He said, “Bobby, where is your wife?” Bobby said, “Sherry is somewhere in the mountains, riding a mule to go somewhere.” He said, “Well, if you were really blessed, your wife would be driving a Mercedes Benz, like mine!” He was blessed, but he never helped the poor… Yet the Word of God says, “To whom much is given, much is required.” All of us “owe a debt to the Lord.” When we give to the poor, we pay our debt, and we lay up treasures in Heaven!
