Word from the Mission Field – 10-07-18

“The Spirit of the Lord…”
In Judges 6 and 7, we read the wonderful story of a young man named Gideon. He was nothing to talk about, really…just an ordinary Israelite, who was abused by the Midianites, as were all the Israelites. The Midianites had destroyed all the crops of the Israelites and took their cattle, sheep, oxen, asses, etc. The Bible says that they “came as grasshoppers, and their camels were without number!” Can you imagine the terror? But God saw a young man, Gideon, and told him that he would fight and overcome the enemy. “But the Spirit of the Lord came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet…” Judges 6:34 – Blowing a trumpet was a call to war! All of a sudden, this timid young man who had done nothing but thresh wheat for his father was about to conquer the “enemy that was without number!” When the Spirit of God comes on you, you can do things that you normally would never do, or could never do! This is what happens to us missionaries here in Haiti. We fight Voodoo spirits, demonic attacks, as well as gangs and thugs trying to get our food, but when the “Spirit of the Lord” comes upon us, we are not sissies! We are warriors! God makes the difference. Have a great day and “be not afraid!” Sherry
