Word from the Mission Field

“Time to Stretch Out…”

We all start small in whatever we do… God blesses “small beginnings.” Bobby and I began preaching on street corners for many, many years. We had an old platform, and our PA cord was run through the window of the home of one of our African American sisters in the Lord. We borrowed chairs from the funeral home. We had two small children, and our offerings were somewhere between $1.00 a night and maybe $5.00 a night. We nearly gave up. My mother had to supply milk for our babies, but we were faithful.

Financial trials were horrible… we tried to get the bank to “loan us money against our car, which had so many miles on it!” Well, that answer was “no.” Our credit was bad, but we kept on with “small things.” Then, the Lord called us to Haiti. It looked like “everyone else around us” was being blessed. Have you ever felt like that? But never give up! We kept on, and little by little, God began to speak to us to build churches and schools “in hard-to-reach places.” Yes, we were driving cars that “broke down in the middle of nowhere,” but we kept on going. Finally, the Lord said, “Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left…” (Isaiah 54:1-3)

This is “your Word” for today! Don’t be afraid to step out on the water! “Spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes…” Faith never stands still! This is the Word “for you,” today! Sherry
