Word from the Mission Field

“A child’s idea of faith…”

Why do people write books and make videos on faith, but make faith such a hard thing to understand? I watch children, and I see and understand faith… “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

I recently posted a few pictures of little Nelson from the village of Old Letant. He broke my heart one day when I saw him sitting on the ground, on his knees in the sun, with no one to bring him food or water. His Voodoo father didn’t want him, and in fact, he was called, “pa bezouin” or “I don’t need you.” As I picked up that naked little malnourished toddler and took him to our orphanage, I could only hope and pray that one day he would be “normal.” But love made the difference, and with God’s help, he began to walk and talk and run and play.

One day, Bobby was pulling into the garage at our Love A Child Children’s Home. There are about five steps down from the bottom floor to the floor of the garage. Nelson stood on the top step, eagerly awaiting his “poppie” to get out of the car so that he could jump in his arms. Bobby, unknowingly, came up and put his arms out to Nelson, but Nelson took a “flying leap in midair,” expecting his poppie to run up and catch him! Bobby almost had a heart attack! But he quickly ran with his arms out and Nelson did his flying leap into midair, landing in the strong arms of his poppie! That was our faith lesson! God is standing there with his big arms stretched out to you and saying, “Jump! I’ll catch you!” That’s what real faith is! It is confidence in your “heavenly papa,” that He will catch you if you take the leap of faith! Don’t be afraid! He has “never missed catching” any one of His kids! Sherry
