Word from the Mission Field

“You can have it if you want it, but it might not be God’s will…”

When Jesus taught us to pray, He said, “Let thy will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven…” Have you ever wanted something so bad and the Lord finally gave it to you, and then you regretted it? Perhaps it wasn’t “God’s will.” Sometimes we are like spoiled children who cry and throw temper fits if we don’t get what we want, forgetting that our Heavenly Father “knows what’s best for us.”

Since the days that the Israelites came out of Egyptian bondage, they had caused God “nothing but trouble!” They murmured and complained so much that God let them “wander around in the wilderness for 40 years!” They were “spoiled brats!”

After Moses and Joshua died, the Israelites had “judges” over them, but they still were sneaking off making false idols and serving them, the thing which God hated. The prophet Samuel was now growing old, and they said, “Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.” (1 Samuel 8:5) The prophet Samuel did not agree with this and when he prayed, God said, “Let them have what they want, but tell them what kind of king he will become.” If you read this chapter, God tells them what their king will be like after he comes into office. And everything the Lord said came to pass… Saul was a wicked king who took their sons and daughters to work for him; he took their fields, their vineyards, and their olive trees and gave them to his servants; he took their manservants and maidservants. “Nevertheless, they refused to obey the voice of Samuel…”

It might be better to pray, “Lord, if it’s Your will…” God bless you and have a great day! Sherry
