Word from the Mission Field: 4-24-19 6:00 AM

“God’s Got You Covered!”

Being a missionary in Haiti has its ups and downs… The “ups” are feeding and caring for children, feeding villages, preaching the gospel, visiting the sick in our clinic, having crusades, operating a large orphanage, etc. The “downs” can be trying to distribute food to hungry people when the thugs arrive. This happens sometimes. Haiti’s poor are desperate for jobs and food… sometimes “distributing food” can put us in a dangerous position. But God has always protected us… “The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.” (Psalm 18:2) Wow! Why should we ever fear anything? I understood everything except the “buckler…” I thought, “What in the world is that?”

A “buckler” was used in battle. It was like a shield, worn on the left arm, made of wood and leather. In the middle, there was a special kind of metal that caused “darts and stones,” to bounce off! That means that when God is also your “buckler,” he will make the darts and stones of the enemy “bounce off of you!” This has happened to us when we have distributed food and were attacked by thugs. They jumped on the front hood of our truck and had rocks and guns pointed at us! They were angry because “they weren’t on the food list!” (They could have asked us nicely, and we would have given them food.) But God got us out of that situation safely, without harm!

He is our “everything!” God’s got us covered! Have a great day and do not fear!!! Sherry

P.S. Oh, yes! We had a meeting with the “thugs” that tried to kill us. We hired them as our Food Security Guards! They receive food, are happy, have a job, and they protect us “very well!” They take “very good care” of us! We are trusting in the Lord to save each of them!!!
