We are serving a “just God!” Have you ever felt like you needed “justice?” Someone has done you wrong, lied to you, hurt you, or stolen from you? You don’t need to “get even” with them, because God has a “justice system” of His own. Sometimes, justice doesn’t come quickly, or it doesn’t come when you want it to, but it will come.
The Bible says, especially concerning the poor… “Thus saith the Lord; Execute ye judgment and righteousness […] and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.” (Jeremiah 22:3) The Haitians have a proverb that says, “God’s justice comes on a donkey.” In other words, it is slow, but it’s on the way!
Years ago, we were in the village of Old Letant. At the time, we had three other villages come to get their food in the same area. (This was when the ex-witch doctor, Joel, was still alive.) Big box trucks loaded with poor Haitian women came to get their box of food, and then, when that village was finished, the huge truck would speed away down the dirt road to their village. These trucks had no doors on the back, so you could see what was inside, always.
On this particular day, one truck was left, and Bobby and I were getting ready to leave in our truck. But before I got to our truck, I heard the poor Haitians screaming for help. I looked and there was a “rich light-skinned well-dressed” Haitian lady in a nice beautiful tight orange skirt and white blouse. She was much “bigger” than the Haitian ladies in the truck. The poor ladies were yelling, “Help Madamn Sherry, she is stealing this lady’s food!” The thin, poorly dressed lady in the truck was trying to hold on to her box of food, but the rich-looking Haitian lady (with a large “backside”) was pulling on the box, trying to steal it. The truck had its motor running and without thinking, I ran over and smacked that lady on her “big backside,” really hard, with a loud “smack!” And at the same time, the truck pulled away and the rich lady fell to the ground!
As the truck pulled away, in the back of the truck the poor Haitian ladies were dancing and praising God, and that one poor woman had the biggest smile ever! She held her box up high and danced!!! I got in my car, and we drove away. I thought about God’s justice and what the Haitians say, “God’s justice is like a donkey… It is slow, but it will come!” So, don’t fret about those evil doers! God’s justice may be slow to you, but it is on the way! Have a good day! Sherry
