Don’t Eat Your Seed!!

“Behold, a sower (farmer) went forth to sow… some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them…But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.” Matthew 13:3-8

Here, Jesus was explaining the “miracle of the seed.” But, some people “eat their seed” instead of planting it. They don’t want to take the time to find good soil, water it, or pull out the weeds.

Years ago, we were in a poor village where we distributed food each month. We thought, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could bring good seeds and have the villagers plant them, and then, they could have food each month, all year!” We gave them good seed, the best for their soil, and instructions on how to plant. But when we went back, there was nothing!

We began to ask around, and finally, someone said, “We ate the seed!” This is what happens to some people when God gives them seeds to plant. They eat it, they waste it, and because of that, the Lord takes it from them and gives it to someone else.

So, when the Lord trusts you with seed to plant, “don’t eat your seed!”
