When to “Let Go…”
Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 declares that “there is a time for every purpose under the sun…” We all must learn “when to hold on to something and when to let go.” Hannah was a woman of God, married to a godly man, Elkanah, but he had a second wife, “Peninnah,” who had born a lot of children to Elkannah. God had shut up the womb of Hannah… until the perfect timing of God! One day, Eli, the prophet in the temple, heard Hannah praying; her lips were moving, but she was praying a “silent prayer.” (You see, God hears those silent prayers, just as He hears those “loud prayers!”) He knew that she was so vexed in her spirit, and he finally asked her what the problem was. She told him that she was barren, and I am sure that she was probably “past time for childbearing.” He told her to go home, and God would give her, her heart’s desire. She made a vow to God then, that she would “dedicate this child” to the Lord, as soon as she had weaned him.
About two years later, it was “time.” Here was her little toddler, an adorable little boy, that she would have to give to the Lord. She not only went, but “she took offerings” to the Lord as she went. What a strong woman. With every step toward the temple, she knew that “she would have to let go!” She left that little toddler in the temple, in the hands of the elderly prophet of God, a stranger to the little boy, Samuel.
Who could do that? We don’t know if he cried or not. All we know is that she knew that “it was time to let go.” Samuel turned out to be the greatest prophet in the Bible and was greatly used of the Lord, and God gave Hannah five more children! Maybe you’ve been “holding on to something too long,” and God is saying, “It is time to let go.” Maybe it’s time to “walk away.” You know who you are… God cannot bless you until you “let go.” God bless you.
