Today is Independence Day. On July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies claimed independence from England, which gave birth to the United States of America. We were free from England.

In 1804, General Dessalines won independence from the French who promoted slavery. In 1804, Haiti became a country. Haiti is now the oldest black republic in the world!
