Word From the Mission Field

Who is Your Neighbor?

In Luke 10, Jesus is talking to a lawyer about the scripture, “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Luke 10:27) So the lawyer asks Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” So, Jesus told the story of the man who went down to Jericho and fell among thieves, who beat the man, stripped him of his clothing, and left him for dead on the side of the road.

The first man who came by was a Priest, and then a Levite, both religious people…and “they passed by on the other side.” (Isn’t that just like people today? They close their eyes to the sight or the sound of the poor.) But a certain Samaritan came where he was, had compassion on him, cleaned his wounds with oil and wine, set him on his own mule, and took him to an inn. He gave the innkeeper two pence and said, “Take care of him and whatever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.”

So, “Who is your neighbor?” The answer: “Whoever needs your love.”

Have a great day,

Sherry
