“In the power of thy hand…”

“Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.” Proverbs 3:27-28

How many times have we “felt led” to do something good for someone and we put it off?

Each month, we have a “food distribution” here in Haiti and we invite 90 other organizations to come. We give them all food for their orphanages, or whatever work they are doing for the poor in Haiti. We had one friend, an elderly missionary, Bob (pictured on the right), who came every month. He was about 90 years old. He had been working in Haiti for over 50 years. He had an orphanage and never had much money. He ate only what the children ate, mostly beans and rice.

Last month, when he came, we said to each other, “Let’s buy Bob some special food and take it to him. Let’s take him some of our tilapia fish. He really loves those fish.” We had often “thought about” doing this, but just “talked about it.” Has that ever happened to you? You want to do something for someone, but you just “talk about it,” and “maybe you’ll get around to do it,” someday.

That day, last month, we joked with Bob and had a good time with him. He went back to his orphanage, went to sleep, and died… The next morning, we got the notice. We had “taken pictures with him” and “talked about doing something good,” but didn’t do it. Now, we will never have that chance…

Has the Lord been leading you to do “something good for someone?” Don’t put it off, do it now, tomorrow may be too late. Sherry
