Word from the Mission Field

“Where is God, When You Need Him?”

“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”

In Psalms 42:1 David’s heart is in pain. The God he loved and served as a shepherd boy seems a million miles away. David is running from a great, and very jealous enemy, King Saul. David cannot kill him, even if he has the chance because Saul is anointed of God. David hides in cave after cave like a wild animal, wondering “where is this God I serve?” He is telling God that he, David, is like a hart, panting after the brook… he is “thirsty for God.” Have you ever been “thirsty for God?” He said, “my tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, “Where is thy God?”

Years ago, when we were very, very poor, Bobby went on a long 21 day fast, on water only. We were broke, trying to get into the ministry. We had been preaching on street corners with two small children but Bobby decided that “if he wanted to find God, he should shut himself up in the rat shack, and pray, for 21 days.” At the end of 21 days, Bobby was more disappointed than ever. Bobby never saw a vision, or had a dream, or even heard the voice of God. The devil said, “I told you God was dead. I told you He doesn’t hear your prayers.”

I know you may be feeling like this, “where is God when I need Him? Where is God when I am sick or my child is sick? Where is God?” The answer is… “He’s been there all the time.” The Lord spoke to Bobby when he came off his fast and said, “Bobby, the just shall walk by faith and not by sight. I’ve been here all the time!” So, remember this, no matter what you are going through today, God is right there… “The just shall walk by faith and not by sight.”

Have a great day and remember, that even when you feel “God is a million miles away, He is closer to you than you think.”
