“When thou passes through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Isaiah 43:2

The Lord never said, “you won’t ever pass through the river.” He never said, “you will never pass through the floods.” He never said, “You’ll never go through the fire.” He said, “When you have these tests, I’ll be with you and you will come out on top, and I will not let anything happen to you.”

I remember years ago in Haiti we were doing a Mobile Medical Clinic far in the mountains. We had to walk a long way because we didn’t have any good vehicles (just junk machines). When we left the village, Mr. Occius, from Savaan Pit, told us, “you must leave quickly because the rains are coming and you could be trapped in the river gorge. It’s very dangerous.” We left as soon as we could but when walking through the river bed, there were mountains on both sides, and the rain was falling hard. The dry gorge we were walking in became a swift river. It was trying to carry our team down through the river bed, which had mountains on both sides! It was extremely dangerous!

At one point, in order to get across, we had to tie a rope around the trees on both sides and hold on to the rope to cross the swiftly moving river that we were caught in. Fear almost took over, but carefully we held on to the rope, each one of us, and made it across safely. The Lord had told us, “When you pass through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee…”

Today, you may be facing a different kind of “river.” You may feel that you are sinking, but you’re not. The Lord has ahold of your hand and you will surely pass through the river and come out on dry land! Do not fear!! Do not fear! God has this! Have a great day.
