Word from the Mission Field

How much is wisdom worth?

Over the many years of ministry, starting at the “bottom,” and being involved in many types of ministries, we have grown to know one thing, and this one thing is more “valuable than rubies…” It is called “wisdom.”

Some people try all of their life to build a fortune, but the Bible says, “For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” (Proverbs 8:11) When going through a trial, sometimes, we ask the Lord for the wrong thing. There are times when we need to ask the Lord for “wisdom.” Wisdom will tell you where to go, what to do, and when to keep your mouth shut. Wisdom will open a door when it is closed. Wisdom brings “favor” with it.

There is a story in the Bible of a man named Nabal, and his wife’s name was Abigail. It is found in 1st Samuel 25. To make a long story short, when David and his men were hiding from Saul, David and his men came to Nabal to ask for food for their journey. David’s men had helped Nabal’s servants when they were tending sheep and protected them, so David thought Nabal would give him food for his journey. But this man had no “wisdom.” Instead, he cursed David’s men and told them to leave. David’s men went back and told David. And now, David was out to kill this man! However, his beautiful wife, Abigail, had “wisdom.” She secretly loaded up donkeys with bread, food, wine, grapes, and all anyone could desire. She sent all these donkeys laden with food before her, and then approached David on her knees asking forgiveness and letting him know “how foolish her husband was.” It worked. David decided not to kill Nabal and his men. They ate the food and left. Later, the Lord smote Nabal and killed him, and David married Abigail. See what wisdom can do!!

“For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”

“How much is wisdom worth? It is priceless!” Pray for wisdom each day!
